"Modern Approaches to Aesthetics and Function in Prosthetic Treatment"
Lek. stom. Agnieszka Szygenda
Modern prosthetics provides a full range of digital solutions that realize the needs of doctors and patients to make diagnosis and treatment as simple and fast as possible. But surely this is all it has to offer us? In my presentations, I will try to substantiate the thesis that modern restorative prosthodontics, by consciously shaping the correct occlusion, changes the patient’s skeletal framework, thereby also permanently altering facial features and restoring often significantly impaired functions: chewing, biting, speech, swallowing, postural stabilization and taming bruxism.
In my first lecture, I will show how to deal with prosthodontic patients with associated Class II and III skeletal defects, open bite, crossbite. Often, due to damaged teeth and numerous deficiencies, these patients do not qualify for orthodontic treatment, but expect a radical change in their appearance. I will present to you how to plan for raising the height of the occlusion in patients with the above-mentioned malocclusion.
During the second lecture, I would like to focus your attention on the physiological aspects of the function of the masticatory organ. We will discuss in detail all the functions I undertake to rehabilitate: mastication, swallowing, biting, speech, postural stabilization and bruxism. I will present prosthetic and orthodontic tools for the treatment of dysfunctional patients and explain how to understand dynamic occlusion, which provides the aforementioned functions.
My goal is to disenchant the myth that helping dysfunctional patients is very difficult. I am convinced that understanding the physiology of all functions will be a kind of breakthrough in your daily practice.
See you in Lodz.
